Meet Prester Pickett, M.F.A.
Prester Pickett, M.F.A., President/C.E.O of Pickett Line Productions, is a professor, performer, playwright, producer, and director. He is the first African American to secure an M.F.A. in Acting from Case Western Reserve University and one of three playwrights selected by the Cleveland Bicentennial Commission in 1996 to write plays about the history of Cleveland. In addition to being a producer of “Lasting Legacies” for Village TV, a formerly active cable television station in Cleveland, Ohio, he wrote, directed and produced Harambee House. This full-length feature film was shown as part of the EthnoGenre Film Festival in Rochester, New York in 1996. Prester has served as a lecturer, coordinator, assistant director, edutainment specialist, learning specialist and scholar in higher education for more than 35 years. He has been featured on the Today Show; served as a narrator for the Cleveland Orchestra; produced his “Shake Spear” column for the Call & Post Newspaper; hosted a local radio show, IMAGES; and had his plays produced by professional theater companies like the Secret Rose Theater in North Hollywood; Ensemble Theater in Houston, Texas; St. Louis Black Repertoire; and Kuntu Theater in Pittsburgh.
